18 year-old Kerryman charged with harassing Ian Wright

An 18-year old man from Tralee appeared before the district court in Co Kerry, charged with harassing the former England and Arsenal footballer Ian Wright.

Patrick O'Brien, of Sycamore Court, Ashleigh Downs in Tralee was arrested on Monday.

He was charged with harassing Wright at an undisclosed place in Ireland on May 11th.  The charge is brought under the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act.

O’Brien is also facing a second charge under the Post Office and Communications legislation.

This charge come after he allegedly sent a message via telephone that was "grossly offensive, obscene and menacing".

The case has been adjourned until November. O'Brien has been released on bail until the then, when the jurisdiction of case will be decided.

Wright scored 239 goals in his 501 games at club level throughout his career, and scored nine international goals in 33 appearances for England.

The Premier League legend started his professional career with Crystal Palace in 1985, where he played until '91 before moving to Arsenal.

The former striker now works alongside Roy Keane, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker among others as a commentator and pundit on BBC Sport and ITV Sport.
