Kilkenny's Ger Aylward has retired from inter-county hurling.

The 28-year-old is the second of Brian Cody's side to retire in as many days after corner-back Paul Murphy called it a day on Friday.

The Glenmore clubman walks away with two All-Ireland medals and three senior Leinster titles to his name.

The corner-forward received an All-Star in 2015.

Aylward made his senior debut against Tipperary in March 2013.

He has also represented the Cats at minor and intermediate level.

Announcing the news on Instagram on Saturday afternoon he said,

"Would just like to take this opportunity to thank family and friends for the support over the past 7 years it was an honour to wear the black and amber time to call it a day, thanks for the memories."

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody is currently preparing for his 23rd successive season in charge after being reappointed on Monday night.
