GAA confirm that kids Cúl Camps will open this summer

Relief for addled parents is on the horizon after the GAA confirmed it will operate its Kelloggs Cúl Camps this summer.

The gaelic games-based summer camps will operate at club venues from July 20.

This year's Cúl Camps will be trailed by a new show - GAA Cúl Camp TV - airing on TG4 from June 29.

The scheme had fallen into doubt as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put the brakes on all gaelic games activity.

The GAA say they've been able to confirm the go-ahead of this year's camps following, "Recent developments with the Government and GAA roadmaps, and extensive planning relating to health and safety."

They say the camps will adhere to the GAA's Safe Return to Gaelic Games document.

Bookings are due to re-open via the Kelloggs Cúl Camps site on June 22.

The GAA advise early booking. "To allow for all health and safety measures," they say, "Capacity at certain camp locations and venues may be reduced this year and in some instances demand for places will outstrip availability."

Since their inauguration 2006, 1,389,539 children have participated in the Cúl Camps programme including over 156,000 children and nearly 6,000 coaches in 2019.

GAA president John Horan welcomed the news of the 2020 go-ahead, "I am delighted that we are in a position to confirm plans around arrangements for our 2020 Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps and acknowledge all of the work that has taken place in recent weeks in an effort to get us to this point.

"2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone and we have had to revisit what are the most successful underage camps run by any organisation, anywhere.

"We were determined to run the camps this year and while they have to be organised differently, I hope the essence of what they represent will still shine through.

"I’d also like to acknowledge the support of long-term partners Kelloggs for their ongoing support and also TG4, who will play a central role in the first phase."

GAA Cúl Camp TV will feature contributions from multiple All-Ireland winning Cork Camogie and Football star, Rena Buckley, Dublin hurler Liam Rushe and former Donegal footballer star Kevin Cassidy.

Prices are as follows;
First child €65.00/£55.00
