Deserter Songs, the fourth studio album from Mercury Rev is this week's #ClassicAlbumOfTheWeek.
The orchestral rock album almost wasn't made, after their previous album See You On The Other Side failed to climb the charts.
The band attempted one last album before they were to call it a day and produced Deserter Songs, which, to their surprise, became their most successful album.
That NME went on to dub it their album of the year in 1998.
Birthed out of a time of great pain and sadness, the raw emotion of Deserter Songs influenced many.
Tune in all week to hear tracks from the album.
The Paul McLoone Show, Monday to Thursday from 9pm.
