Where exactly is Cong? It may seem like a straightforward enough question but it created a bit of controversy on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show this morning. It all started when Ian read an article about Ashford Castle being named Ireland's Hotel of the Year. Sounds innocent. Except the article in question named Ashford Castle as a Galway Hotel. And so, the battle began...is Cong in Mayo or is it actually officially Galway?

Cong sits on the Galway Mayo border. Ashford Castle is on the Mayo side although its grounds extend into Galway. The village of Cong is in Mayo. Ross in Galway
-
Cong is in Mayo. Most of Ashford Castle grounds are also in Mayo but the castle building is in Galway
-
I live in Cong! It's right in the border between the 2 counties. The village of Cong is mainly in Mayo.
-
Ashford Castle is in Galway but it's entrance and driveway, golf course etc is in Mayo. Very confusing! But once you cross the bridge you're in Galway.
-
Cong is in Mayo 100%. We had this craic in the 1890s when Roscommon stole Ballaghaderreen. We won't be allowing another land grab Ian. Ps: Mayo for Sam. Ciaran in Charlestown

Hi Ian. Cong is actually right on the border of Galway and mayo but the castle itself and all its gardens are in fact in Galway which is rarely reported! Conor
@IanDempsey Cong&Ashford Castle are definitely in Mayo.As is Delphi, it just sounds better to say they are in Connemara, but they're not.

But we got confirmation from Cong man Andrew Glynn who came on air to clear it up. Cong is MAYO!
