For most people, school is a trying experience - homework, assignments, essays and the dreaded exams. But, for a lot of us, there was one particular teacher that went above and beyond, that inspired us better and helped you achieve the grade that we deserved. Their support may have come in the form of some gentle encouragement or maybe it was their passion for the subject that drove you to do your homework.
Even Domhnall Gleeson, international movie star had one of those teachers and he was thrilled to be reunited with her on The Late Late Show on Friday night.

Ian wanted to mark 'World Teacher Day' today and give those special teachers a special shoutout. We got some lovely messages from people all over the country....
- Mrs Waldron my secondary school biology teacher. she never gave up on me and looked out for me for my few years there. I'd be worse off now if it wasn't for her. Bootz Tully
- Carmel Morey, my German teacher who inspired my interest in the language and inspired me to become a German teacher myself. From Ruth Hamilton
- Mr Mick Daly, Colaiste Eoin, Finglas. He went absolutely above and beyond to help any student, he was involved in kayaking and passed on his knowledge to many, many men and women and even to this day he's still paddling and we're meeting up this weekend paddling, after leaving school over 20yrs ago. Thanks Mick. From Declan Geoghegan
- Phil Conway (Irish) and Fionnuala Greene (French), Bridgetown VC in Wexford. Two tough ladies but fabulous teachers with a superb work ethic. Brilliant teachers who inspired me greatly. We still talk about them 20 years on. I'm now in my 16th year of teaching French and still speak Irish with Irish teacher colleagues!! From James Browne
- Ms Gildea in the Pres Waterford . Best Irish teacher and Miss Kennedy who made history exciting – an example is us standing on our desks to recreate the Vikings coming on boats! Niamh Tobin
- My 3rd class teacher in Ransboro NS in Sligo, Ms Imelda Mulligan. She fostered my love of singing & showed her selflessness by holding choir every morning before school. I never said it to her, but I should have said "thank you Ms Mulligan".Jean Mc Connell
- Mr. Ger Hogan, a passionate Clare man and my 6th class teacher in St. Joseph's CBS in Gorey, Co. Wexford. Not only the best teacher I ever had but one of the best men I had the honour of knowing. He was stern but fair, he loved teaching and instilled in me a love of Irish culture and heritage. Tragically passed away far too soon in the late 1990's. He got to see his home county of Clare and his adopted one of Wexford win All Ireland's! I'll never forget him. Barney Connors
- My Irish teacher who drove the whole way from Belfast to Donegal with a cake for me when I got my A level results. I am still a teacher of Irish and French. Nuala Campbell
Altogether now, aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwh. Thanks to all the lovely teachers out there.
