This morning we read that some housework tips have been disregarded as "Old Wives Tales" thanks to the rise in social media and chat forums - people are giving each other dodgy advice they believe to be true. However - there are some amazing "life hacks" out there - and here are the best of what the listeners of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show sent in! Who else is dying to go home and do the cleaning now?! Eh? Hello? Anyone? Awh.

Any time someone broke a glass at home, my granny would press pieces of slice pan down on to the area...never heard of anyone else doing that. But it does get rid of the tiny broken bits ! Jenny

Tomato ketchup is brilliant for cleaning copper pots and pans and others too. Catherine

Best tip ever - my Dad told me to stop my teapot dripping after you pour a cup of tea rub a tiny bit of butter on the tip of the spout. Works every time! Amy

Kieran Fitzpatrick ‏- Ian Dempsey you must have an industrial size bottle of vinegar!

Stop bathroom mirrors steaming up rub a dry bar of soap over the surface and rub in with a clean cloth (my sister learned this living in OZ) Ann Marie

If your new shoes are too tight put the nozzle of your blow dryer into shoe and turn on low. When shoe gets warm, stuff with paper or socks to stretch it.

1/2 lemon sprinkled with table salt can be used safely to clean or remove stains from granite. For stains leave lemon and salt on stain to soak, then rinse with clean water and dry. It’s easy! Eamon

To dry a damp load of laundry faster (using a tumble dryer), add a dry bath towel to the mix. It works! Clara, Dublin

Toothpaste will clean silver, Iano! Claire, Cork

Disinfect your kitchen sponges every night by squeezing it out and microwaving it on high for a minute.

Do a 5-minute sweep through each room, taking a laundry basket with you. Place in it anything that doesn't belong in that room, then put away the stuff that does belong there.
