Sherlock star Amanda Abbington had her handbag stolen at the Emmys while she went up to collect her award. She plays Mary Watson in Sherlock, and she left the bag under her chair while she went up to collect her award for Outstanding TV Movie. She gave the few interviews after, as normal, and then went back to her seat to discover her bag was gone along with her phone and driving licence. She tweeted some expletives; such was her fury...understandable.
Dame Maggie Smith has replied to Jimmy Kimmel’s slagging of her non-appearance at the Emmys in the most deliciously classy way ever by saying;
“I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me. If Mr Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office, I will try to be on the next flight. Love, Old Maggie”.
Ed Sheeran is still in Ireland – last seen tucking into breakfast in Schull in Co Cork. He took a photo with the staff of Schull Harbour Hotel, dressed in a t-shirt and baseball hat – and when they shared it on Facebook, people couldn’t believe it. Fair City’s producers have said that they have done lots of cost cutting, and have learned to cut corners to stick to their budget. One example given to the Irish Daily Star today was throwing dry toast rather than soup because it’s cheaper to clean up.
They also have to factor in costs for stunt co-ordinators for health and safety reasons, not just for the big car crash scenes but for the punches and slaps too...and throwing vases at Paul Brennan’s head.
