The Great British Bake Off's first episode on Channel 4 has gone down well with viewers for the most part.
The new series sees Paul Hollywood joined by fellow judge Prue Leith, with Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig as the new Mel and Sue.
Line-up changes and ad breaks aside, many viewers said the show felt reassuringly familiar.
For example; the oooh matron aspect was still there when a champagne bottle crafted out of chocolate had viewers laughing out loud as they mistook it for a...well, a willy. There were also plenty of soggy and exposed bottoms so all is well!
And in other showbiz;
It’s Game Over for Red Rock, according to today’s Herald. We learned last week that filming will not resume next month, and instead would return next January because the warehouse where they film is being sold. However, props and costumes are apparently now being sold off which would indicate the end is nigh. Despite the show being highly regarded, it wasn’t a ratings winner and made no profit and because TV3 doesn’t have a TV licence to fall back on, it’s hardly surprising they’ll cancel it.
Speaking of TV3 and money – no wonder they’ll have to watch the purse strings. They’ve finally signed Louis Walsh as a judge for Ireland’s Got Talent, for a staggering 150K. If this was RTE, it wouldn’t be that big a deal but TV3 notoriously doesn’t have the cash pot that RTE has and this is a massive investment for them.
And finally....the Irish celebrity we would most like to share an ice-cream with, apparently, is Brendan O’Carroll! HB carried out a survey (one last push before the end of the summer, eh?!) and Brendan was top of the list, followed by the O’Donovan Brothers and then The Script in their entirety!
