Call The Midwife has been voted the best period drama of the 21st century.
The Radio Times survey puts it ahead of Poldark, North and South, Downton Abbey and Wolf Hall. It is a brilliant show but to beat Downtown Abbey is pretty huge. It’s like being in an Enid Blyton book...if Enid Blyton’s books were full of gruesome birthing chapters.
Happy Valley triumphed in the crime category and rightly so – it was brilliant and our own Charlie Murphy was absolutely fantastic in it.
Voters elected The West Wing the best US drama.
