This morning, Ian was delighted to welcome best pals, and authors of "Oh My God What A Complete Aisling", into studio to tell us all about their highly anticipated novel.
Emer McLysaght is from Kildare and Sarah Breen is from Carlow, and they met way back in 2003 while studying journalism in Ballyfermot College. They created an #OMGYACA closed Facebook Group in 08', where Aisling was first released into the world. After nearly a decade of anecdotes and antics, they decided it was time to introduce her to a wider audience.
The question is - "What/Who is Aisling?". Well Aisling is your stereotypical country gal: a steady kind of girl who carries her shoes to work in a bag while pounding the pavement with her runners. She keeps all of her receipts and checks them against her bank statements. She enjoys a cheeky Coors Light in McGowans of Phibsborough and 'goes home' a lot. She always has stamps in her purse and panadol at the ready.
The book catches up with Aisling at the age of 28, where she has been going out with John for 7 years. All she wants is to get the ring on her finger (don't they all), but when a holiday to Tenerife doesn't go as planned, she calls the relationship off, finding herself single, and in bit of a love square.
It's an excellent concept, full of wit and laughter - but it also deals with the harsher side of life, with one piece being particularly moving.
"Oh My God What A Complete Ailsing" is out now and available in all good bookstores.
