In The Star today, we read that Ireland's Call is the sporting anthem most BRITISH parents like to sing to their babies to get them to sleep, a survey revealed. We wondered what Irish parents sang to their babas to get them off to sleep - and so we put the question out to the listeners of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show - with some interesting results! Have a read below:

Hi Ian, we still sing Paddy the Plasterer to our Paddy aged 8and a half (the half very important) - his Grandad was a plasterer so he loves it. Debbie

I sang MLK by U2 to all four of my kids. Sleep , sleep tonight...Mark

I used to sing I love you because you are my baby to the air of I love you because you understand me. By Jim Reeves I think.  Tricia in Tipp

The Lakes of Ponchertrain sung by The Coronas - works like a charm to put Kate asleep in the car. She even asks for it :)

RE: singing to kids - I sometimes sing to my 9 month old daughter Rebecca. Enter Sandman from Metallica, or Sweet Child Of Mine from Guns n Roses OR The Heretic Anthem from Slipknot .Michael in Wicklow

Hi Ian, I would sing The Carpenters Close To You to my kids and I fall in love with them over and over every day.

My husband hums "Flower of Scotland" to our baby. He says it's a nice melody

Hi Ian, we used to sing I See You Baby, Shaking That Ass when changing my son’s nappy, which he loved. Had to stop when he learnt to open it himself!

Hi Ian my song was Sultans of Swing Where’s Me Jumper – however, it didn’t get them to sleep as u could imagine, but they still laugh! From Will in Costa del Tramore!

After my 8 year old daughter Abbie 's shower we sing "hands up baby hands up give me your love give me give me your love give me all your love". She loves it and always has. Lovely moments. It's the simple things! Natalie

I loved singing "I'm On Fire" to my daughter Aisling. I only sang the first line over and over " hey little girl is your daddy home" well she loved it anyway. Dave Ashbourne

I sang You'll Never Walk Alone to my four children must have had a lasting effect, as none of them support liverpool. Pat gillick cavan

Both my girls loved "The Lion Sleeps Tonight

My 18 month old daughter loves Some Say The Divil is Dead lol - Bernard Arklow

Our Charlie - who LOVES when we mention how great he is* - made a little compilation of some of the best baby-soothing music suggestions. However. Michelle texted in to 53102 saying "Eh that's baby MAKING music, not baby soothing music!"
