This morning, our newsreader Helen Vaughan, mentioned that children today spend more and more time indoors and using technology for entertainment than outside playing games. We wondered how this was possible - do they not play the games that we used to play when we were children? Ian mentioned Kerbs - and this got the ball rolling for the listeners of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show to tell us all about their versions of Kerbs and other childhood favourites. (Also - the Kerb Champion t-shirt is available on hairybaby.com!)
Ian it was only in the posh areas that it was called kerbs, we called it paths. Noel Dublin
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought one scored a double in kerbs when one hit the opposite kerb after throwing the ball over a moving car. You could be waiting all week for a car to pass back in 1984
In Kilbarrack kerbs was called paths, kerbs was the posh name. Dermot now in Waterford
I started playing kerbs with my kids last year, now I can see kids all over Clonee playing kerbs!!

Ian....remember playing kerbs and you would be on a high for hrs after scoring a double ( ball hits opposite kerb and returns without hitting the ground to bounce off the kerb you are standing on)... 53 yrs old and gonna give it a try after work...cant wait to see the reaction of my neighbours kids....John.

I'm a teacher. A VERY popular playground game now is "flush the toilet"! It's like stuck in the mud, but the kids hold only one arm out which has to be pushed down, or "flushed". They're gas!
