The European Premiere of Frank took place in the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin last night, with Lenny Abrahamson, Domhnall Gleeson and Michael Fassbender in attendance.
I happen to be friends with the biggest EVER Michael Fassbender fan - David - and took him along too, full of hope that he might get to meet his hero. Donning his specially-made (and half-jokey half-serious) “What Would Fassbender Do” t-shirt, off we went to the Lighthouse. Here we are before the film:
The film is GREAT. It’s funny and light-hearted, while at the same time touches on some really heavy issues in quite a sensitive way. Michael Fassbender is so good in it, but Domhnall Gleeson, in my opinion, was terrific. He stole the show! In the audio below, you can hear how charismatic and fun he is, while at the same time taking his role as John very seriously. He also talks about THAT sex scene with Maggie Gyllenhaal (that particular topic lasts around 25 seconds – about 19 seconds longer than the actual sex scene, *winky face* (when you’ve seen the film, that’ll make sense!)
Michael Fassbender was also keen to talk about his role in the film – he discusses the technical side of “wearing Frank” to Scannain – and Lenny tells me that it WASN’T actually that strange directing someone you can’t actually see face-on. It sounds strange, but watch the film and it’ll make sense!
When Fassbender got to us, he was more than happy to take a photo with (the slightly star-struck) David, and he couldn't help but (bemusedly) laugh at the t-shirt! *DELIGHTED FACE*
