Last night, a rake of Moon Persons (or would it be Moon People?) were given to musicians and artists who have excelled in the music video world in the MTV Video Music Awards.

Katy Perry hosted this year’s ceremony, which marked the first year where the awards were gender neutral.

Ed Sheeran won the big one - Artist of the Year - which was a massive surprise to everyone, himself included. He beat Kendrick Lamar, who won everything else, and Ariande Grande, Bruno Mars, The Weekend and Lorde.

P!nk won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and her speech was unreal (check it out below).

It's also been a highly political MTV Video Music Awards ceremony in L.A.

Six transgender current and former members of the US military walked the red carpet after Donald Trump recently announced a ban on new trans recruits.

While the mother of Heather Heyer - killed while protesting against a far-right rally in Charlottesville - appeared on stage.

Susan Bro says she's launching a charity to promote her daughter's legacy.

The event in LA also saw host Katy Perry descend from the ceiling wearing a silver spacesuit, Pink riding a lawnmower during her performance, and a premiere of Taylor Swift's new music video.

And in other showbiz;

Imelda May has apologised to fans at a festival for pulling out last minute to sing at the McGregor Vs Mayweather fight in Vegas - saying "duty called" to sing for Ireland, not money or fame.

She posted on Instagram yesterday to give a lengthy apology to fans who’d attended the Down on the Close festival in Rugby, Warwickshire - where she’d been scheduled to headline on Saturday. I can totally understand her wanting to go to the biggest sporting event ever, and to sing there - but to choose it over a prior commitment and fans who buy her music was a very brave decision...

Lucy Kennedy has been unveiled as the presenter for Ireland’s Got Talent! It’s thought it would go head to head with RTE’s Dancing With The Stars after Christmas but apparently, it’ll air on Saturday evenings instead. Rumoured names of judges include Jason Byrne, Denise Van Outen – and Louis Walsh, but it’s believed Louis Walsh can’t agree on a fee with TV3.

Sarah Harding won Celebrity Big Brother on Friday – how, I’ll never know, but she did. Apparently tantrums and being horrible to your boyfriend on screen will ensure a win! She’s now planning on heading stateside with her new boyfriend, American reality star Chad From-The-American-Version-Of-The-Batcherlor to kickstart her acting career. She had a part in St Trinians and a really small, very brief role in Coronation Street too which was apparently cut short because she was not up to scratch so who knows how this will go.
