This is how it began:
‘Morning Ian, quick question. I have a Norwegian Elkhound dog and last night he got his paws on a double decker bar (not a bus). He swallowed it whole, wrapper as well. He got a taste of chocolate out of a corner. I went to get it off him and he just knocked it back. Do your listeners know if he will pass the wrapper when he does a number 2 (donk). Trev in Cork’
Cue the advice and experiences of Breakfast Show listeners:
Chocolate can kill dogs! The darker the more dangerous and it is also dependent on amount per kilo of body weight! A very small amount can be very dangerous and the problem is that the dog might not show any obvious symptoms. Get dog to vet with chocolate wrapper and an idea of amount eaten.
Chocolate is a poison in humans too and has a lethal dose.
And finally, a tweet and a helpful diagram from @muttugly:
@IanDempsey get dog to the vet ASAP. Choc toxic to nervous system. Check out other dangerous foods pic.twitter.com/ThbrYaBgDk
