Do spoilers get on your nerves? Are you one of the people who hasn’t seen Love/Hate’s finale yet? And if you haven’t, do you feel it’s unfair of others to talk about it?
It was the cause of some debate this morning on the show. It all started when a couple of listeners posited their thoughts on Series 4:
“I think Love/Hate is going to take a bit from the General with Nidge getting locked up so he is not outside when Fran gets clipped or he does a hit on the detective! Its set up well for the final series! James"
“Morning Ian. Watched all 6 episodes of love/hate yesterday. Here’s a question. What happened to the tracking device on Nidge’s car. It was there in episode 5, gone in episode 6. From Dave the taxi with too much time on my hands”
Cue the response from those yet to watch the finale:
“I know you're a big fan of Love/Hate but please give up discussing it. Some of us are still in the midst of the series and enjoying it unfold on screen. You're spoiling it and giving me heart failure every time you bring it up”.
“Please tell Ian to stop ruining the finale of Love/Hate for those of us who have not seen it yet! Claragh and Mick in London (without access to RTE TV)”
“You wouldn't go on air talking about a new film that was just released would you?”
But some people pointed out that if something is the ‘talk of the town’ you can’t just hold back and wait for other to catch up:
“The dogs in the street are talking about LOVE/HATE and how it ended, for God’s sake find an hour and watch it instead of moaning about everyone else getting on with their lives. The world and its axis doesn’t revolve around you. K”
Maura tweeted - “God be with the days when there was no choice but to watch the bloody thing live!”
“Iano, choose to watch a broadcast late and end up with a spoiler... Two words. TOUGH S**T. Phil”
“Why should we miss out on the enjoyment of talking about it just because someone didn't watch it? Not our problem. I understand people hating spoilers in papers before the Show airs, but days after is ridiculous.”
“Ian, maybe Clara could put a notice in all the papers when she's finished watching Love Hate giving the million of us that watched it permission to discuss it. TC”
“Make them all live in the past so! i.e. record everything and live and listen two weeks behind the rest of the world! What's next! Ah I never heard the news, I sky plus-ed it ! Rob the green keeper”
And then of course there’s the odd one who doesn’t care one way of the other about any of it :
“Better not mention Love/Hate again. That'll also satisfy the listeners who didn't see what the fuss was about”.
What do you think? Do you feel it’s unfair of others to talk about something that has already been broadcast?
