It all started with John Duggan mentioning that he collected the full 1989 book of Panini soccer stickers - and suddenly we were taken back to our childhoods, remembering our own collections. Ian used to collect the Batman stickers from the chewing gum, Mairead collected Take That cards, Paula collected trolls - she still does, snarf snarf - and Charlie collected Call Cards. He still has a couple with units left on them knocking around!
Our listeners joined in too:
Ian. I used to collect bottle tops from Grolsch beer – and then chain them around my bedroom wall!
I used to collect fruit stickers! Jaffa, Fyffe, Maroc. Just hundreds of the same one, stuck to the wall over the bed or my jumper. Celia
Ian. Our gran (grandor) collected frogs until she passed away before Christmas. It made an easy gift from holidays and produced many memories. Mike
Hey Ian, I collect fridge magnets - right collection build up from my travels! Think I broke the fridge with the weight of them. The fridge door likes to open up on its own. Ann
I collected the Italia '90 coins that the Esso petrol stations had, still have them somewhere I think. I also collected all the notes my friends and I wrote to each other in class in Mount Saint Michael Secondary School, Rosscarbery. What a laugh reading back over them recently! Happy Days, Paula
Ian I have the year packs from 1990 to 2012 of Irish stamps – I’ve often been tempted to sell them. Thomas in Navan
Ian fancy paper was huge when I was 10. There were sheet and envelope sets, scented sheets - the more you had to swap, the better it was, like what boys do now with football cards.
Morning Ian, I used to collect scraps, lovely coloured pictures, we used to swap them. Really brings me back to my primary school days in Ballinora - whenever I now see them in shops! Valerie in Cork
I collected “Neighbours” cards Ian...the most elusive being Scott and Charlene's wedding!!! Aoife in Dublin!
I collected rubbers - I have over 200 of them
I collected all the cards from Cornflakes back in the 90's of all the rep of Ireland players. You slowly pulled out the card and it would give you all the stats of all the players.
I had then in perfect condition until my son got hold of them about 6 years ago and pulled the inside card out of a few of them :(
Great way of learning all about your international team!
I used to collect inflatable animals. It started with a snake I had seen on Dempsey's Den, and included a pig, spider, and lots more. There were about 15 in all...all suspended from the ceiling above my bed. My Dad hated them...no idea why! Niall in Louth
I use to collect Pokemon cards. Donal in cork
Ian, I collected bottle caps years ago as an 8/9 year old. I sometimes wore my favourite caps on school uniform jumper. By placing a coin on inside of jumper the bottle cap would sit nicely into it. Wrecked at least 1 jumper with it. Poor mother put at stop to it fairly fast. James in Tipp
Hi Ian I collect owls! I love them. My husband has put a bar on me buying anything else with owls on it for our house.
Used to collect pogs, might get back into since they brought Alf back, in pog form! Phil
I used to collect World Cup coins from Esso garages - Alan
Simpson cards! Still have them! Rachel in Dublin
Hi Ian, I collected Strawberry Shortcake fancy paper every week. When I got my pocket money, I would go straight to the shop in the old Dundrum shopping centre and spend all my money on the fancy paper
