Oooh the listeners of the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show are a wiley bunch. We were talking about accidentally stealing things from shops this morning on the show – and we asked for our listeners’ stories. Many of them involved children swiping a bar of chocolate, being caught and made to pay by their parents. Some were honest mistakes of simply walking out of the shop with a lipstick and rushing back to pay, filled with shame and horror.
However – HOWEVER - who could have known that so many of our listeners are living so far outside of the law? We’ve changed names* to protect their anonymity – but bear in mind, Santy is ALWAYS watching.
*we have in our shite changed names – we’re outing you!
Once while buying school supplies I put a pen in my mouth and forgot all about it while paying for copies, folders and markers. I didn’t go back to pay. Kay
A mix up between the manager and new sales assistant resulted in me getting a free Xbox with 2 games instead of 2 free games with an Xbox !!! I SAID NOTHING !! Neil in limerick
Years ago in Woolworths in Limerick, my mom was looking at handbags. She left the store and when she got to the traffic lights on O’Connell St, she realised she had one of the bags over her shoulder. She ran back to Woolworths and asked the manager if they had any security, as she was after leaving the shop with a bag. He asked her if she wanted him to call the Gardai!!! He was only joking but you should have seen moms face!
Hi Ian, I picked up a cardboard box of 100 socket spanners and drill pieces in B and Q - but when I opened it at home, it had another 2 sets packed in the same box!

Hi Ian, I walked out of Debenham’s with a top on the baby's buggy having forgotten to pay for it. I realised and went back in and the staff member said I should have kept walking !! Catherine in Dublin (Happy Christmas)
Re stealing; a couple of weeks ago I walked out from Supervalu, and one of my boys had cucumber and the other had sausages. I made them go back and we paid. Also, when I was teenager my friends stole earrings but didn't say anything to me in the shop because they knew I would go red like a tomato. When they told me, I brought the earrings back and for my honesty, the shop-keeper gave me a bracelet! Laura
I bought a printer in Harvey's, took it back that day cos lead and ink weren't in box. I was given ink and a lead. When I put ink cartridge, there they were! Free ink:-). Alex
