Nobody wants a flabby glass of plonk
Irish people love their glass(es) of vino but for most of us, it's hard to think of the proper adjectives to make it sound like we know what we're actually talking about when it comes tasting.
'Fruity', 'dry', 'robust' and full bodied' can only get you so far, but thanks to the crew over at the Irish Examiner, you're going to sound like a sommelier from now on.
They've done some research and come up with 12 of the best terms to help your vocabulary open up a bit more:
- Neutral
- Buttery
- Steely (a crisp, clean white)
- Minerally
- Grassy
- Austere (highly acidic)
- Chewy
- Flabby (it screams 'meh')
- Jammy
- Rounded
- Leathery
- Dusty
So next time you're in that swanky restaurant you know what to say.
And if you ever come across a bottle described as 'chewy, flabby and leathery' - run for the hills!
