Toby Alderweireld has ended speculation about his future by putting pen to paper on a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Belgian defender's new deal will run until the end of the of 2023 season, he had been due to become a free agent next summer and had a £25m release clause in his former contract.
I couldn’t see myself playing for another club," Alderweireld told Tottenham's official website.
“I feel like I’m honoured to play for this club and I’m a small piece of getting to the next level in that couple of seasons, to reach the Champions League season in, season out and then get to the final as well.
“I think this just the beginning of something big and something very exciting. There is no place I’d be happier. It’s not only me. My family is very happy here, again, I’m very lucky to have a very good connection with the fans.
“I’ve got a love for the club and it feels like it’s both ways, I feel like the club likes me as well, I love the Club, the fans, the new stadium, it’s like I’m living some sort of dream and if you can put another few years on that, I’m very happy.”
