Rob-mania continues a day after Heffernan wins gold at the World Championships! 3 Irish gold medals in 30 years – Eamonn Coghlan, Sonia O’Sullivan and now Rob Heffernan.
This morning Ray spoke to former Irish athlete and gold winner Sonia O’Sullivan who told him that she was following the race on twitter and in all the excitement she nearly burnt the dinner.
Talking about how Rob’s life will change Sonia said: “He’s a superstar now and he’ll be recognized walking down the street and he’ll love it!”.
Sonia spoke about the close team work between Rob and his wife Marion, explaining: “when you have the team behind you, when it gets tough out there you think about these people who have sacrificed a lot of things to help you and then you dig a little harder, and you kind of think it’s not all about me it’s about all these other people around me as well, and you just go a little harder because as well as rewarding yourself you want to reward your team as well”.
