Shelbourne sign teenage midfielder Brian McManus from Preston

Shelbourne have boosted their midfield options ahead of the restart of the SSE Airtricity League by signing 18-year-old Brian McManus.

The Dubliner, who played his underage football at St Kevin's Boys, makes the move to Tolka Park following a spell at SkyBet Championship club Preston North End.

Shels' boss Ian Morris says McManus has “slotted straight into the squad and settled really well.”

“Brian is a fantastic addition to our squad. He is a young lad with great pedigree coming from Preston North End via St. Kevin’s boys.

“He can play in midfield and at full back. Brian has a big engine and an excellent range of passing."

McManus told Shelbourne's official website that he's arriving to a group where “the midfield is already really strong”.

“We want to get as high as we can in the league. It’s a good squad, a very young squad too. I aim to work hard and try to make some appearances.

“You see it with the likes of Shane Farrell breaking in last year so it’s great to see the youth coming through."

McManus' arrival at Shels follows on from winger Alex Cetiner putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract with the club last week.
