The precious nature of life. The photo shows Limerick jockey Robbie McNamara at the 2014 Cheltenham Festival celebrating his Weatherbys Champion Bumper win onboard Silver Concorde.

The Croom native was due to partner last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere in the Crabbie's Grand National at Aintree, but suffered multiple injuries after a fall at Wexford the day before he was supposed to travel to Liverpool.

The good news is he has left his hospital bed for the first time since he suffered that fall at Wexford.

He posted a picture on Twitter confirming his recovery progression "Delighted to get out of the bed for the first time today. What a beautiful day for it to land on #littlevictories."

He was initially taken to Wexford General Hospital, before being transferred to the Mater.

Lord Windermere's trainer Jim Culloty revealed Robbie had suffered eight broken ribs, a punctured lung, he fractured his T11 vertebrae and he had a haematoma on his spine pressing on his spinal cord.

The surgery was deemed a success and Robbie continues with his recovery and we are delighted for him.

Onwards and upwards Robbie.
