Richie Hogan will miss Kilkenny's first match of next year's National Hurling League.
The Central Competitions Control Committee has upheld the one-game suspension from his sending off in the All-Ireland final.
The former Hurler of the Year was dismissed by referee James Owens after he struck Tipperary's Cathal Barrett face with his arm late in the first half of the decider.
A disciplinary hearing took place on Monday night and has found that it was proven that Hogan behaved in a way "which is dangerous to an opponent":
"Richie Hogan requested a Hearing which took place on 04.11.2019. An Lár Choiste Éisteachta (Central Hearings Committee) found the Infraction – "Behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent" proven and imposed the following penalty:
"A One Match Suspension in the same Code and at the same level, applicable to the next game in the combination of the National League/Inter-County Senior Championship, even if the game occurs in the following year," the GAA confirmed in a statement this afternoon.
Seven-time All-Ireland winner Hogan retains the right to appeal the decision to the Central Appeals Committee and he maintains he shouldn't have been sent-off:
"I was going in for a shoulder on Cathal Barrett, he stepped inside and my momentum took me through", he told Off The Ball in August.
"In my opinion, there was absolutely no way it was a sending-off."
