Phil Mickelson to play in the JP McManus Pro Am

Five time major golf champion Phil Mickelson will return to Ireland next year to take part in the JP McManus Pro Am at Adare Manor in Limerick.

The event will take place on July 6th and July 7th 2020.  Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia, ex Irish Open winner Jon Rahm, Swede Henrik Stenson and England's Paul Casey have also been confirmed as part of the line up today.

American Mickelson's presence alongside Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will lend a box office quality to the event.  The Californian has won 45 PGA Tour events, including the Masters three times, the Open Championship and the US PGA Championship.  He has also had six second placed finishes in the US Open.  He is one of the greatest players of this generation.

Mickelson played in the Walker Cup as an amateur at Portmarnock in 1991.  His last competitive appearance on Irish soil was at the 2006 Ryder Cup.

The Adare Manor course was redesigned by Tom Fazio before opening last year.  The course and resort is seen as a strong contender to host the 2026 Ryder Cup.  This will be the sixth staging of the Pro Am, which will benefit charitable organisations in the Mid West.

Home favourites Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Paul McGinley will grace the event.

Some of the amateurs that will line up include Niall Horan, Mark Wahlberg, Jamie Dornan and Hugh Grant.

Tournament host JP McManus said he was delighted with the newly confirmed attendees for the Pro Am: “It’s fantastic to have more of the game’s top players joining what is an ever-increasing line-up at Adare Manor. I have been hugely impressed with the manor of their various victories in recent years and we are very grateful to them for lending their support to the Pro-Am next year. Hopefully the thousands of Pro-Am spectators will be delighted with this news.”
