Munster's World Cup winner RG Snyman steps up injury recovery

Munster lock RG Snyman has taken another significant step in his recovery from an ACL injury by returning to running training.

The South African World Cup winner suffered ligament damage to his knee early in his debut for the Reds against Leinster at the end of last season.

It was initially feared that Snyman would miss all of this season but he could return to the pitch in the coming weeks after moving to the next stage of his rehabilitation.

Last week prop Dave Kilcoyne revealed that the 26-year-old was progressing well in his recovery.

"Credit to RG, he’s working incredibly hard in Munster, day in, day out. He wasn’t as lucky as me, you know, his injury is a lot more long-term, ACL, but he’s battling to get back and not far off and I believe he’s hitting all his markers.”

Craig Casey, Andrew Conway, Shane Daly and Chris Farrell have trained with their provincial teammates today after being released from the Ireland squad for this weekend's Guinness PRO14 clash with Connacht.

Dan Goggin (hand), Matt Gallagher (shoulder), Neil Cronin (knee) will all miss Friday's match at Thomond Park.

Roman Salanoa is going through the return to play protocols after suffering a head injury in last weekend's win against Cardiff while Munster say academy player Thomas Ahern is recovering from a head knock suffered in training last week.
