Munster's senior coach Stephen Larkham says he's been impressed by the skill levels among the Reds' squad and admits they're probably at a higher level than Australia.
The Wallabies legend has joined Johann van Graan's backroom team in Limerick this year after spells working with Australia and Super Rugby side The Brumbies.
“Somebody asked me that the other day and I think the talent, the skill level over here is probably better than it is in Australia," Larkham said ahead of Munster's clash with Ulster in the Guinness PRO14 at Thomond Park this evening.
“Honestly I was very impressed with the skill levels of these players. Their skill levels are good and their ability to learn things is definitely better than some Australian players."
He also brushed off claims that the returning Irish players from the Rugby World Cup will take time to settle back into the team.
“I haven’t seen it this week. And if I had seen it, those players would not be playing. We have players here who have been busting themselves and doing well. The guys coming in have earned that respect and deserve that.
“But if they showed any sense of that attitude, they would have been found out. But they haven’t. They want to play some rugby because it’s been a long time between drinks for a few of them.”
