Munster will be without RG Snyman for start of 2021 campaign

Munster are set to be without RG Snyman for the start of next season, with the World Cup-winning lock set to play for South Africa in the Rugby Championship.

Damian de Allende is also likely to be in the Springboks squad for the tournament, which is due to get underway in New Zealand in November.

“There is still a lot going on to see if the Rugby Championship will go ahead,” Snyman told a video press conference from his new home in Limerick “But yes, I am lucky Munster are allowing me to play for the Springboks.”

The 25-year-old has been handed 23 international caps by former Munster coach and now South African director of rugby Rassie Erasmus

“Rassie is very straightforward so everyone in the team knows where they stand," the ex Honda player said of the World Cup winning boss.

"Another thing about him I really enjoyed – it doesn’t matter what happens except pitching up on game day and performing at your best.

Snyman believes that Munster coach Johann van Graan can help to turn him into a "world class" player and he's also hoping to be part of South Africa's squad for next summer's visit of the Lions.

“That’s a big goal for me to achieve and I am very much looking forward to playing against some of my Munster team-mates hopefully.”
