Munster have confirmed that RG Snyman suffered very serious knee ligament damage during the Guinness Pro14 defeat to Leinster at the Aviva Stadium.

The World Cup winner landed badly after stealing a lineout, meaning his Munster debut lasted all of seven minutes.

Munster head coach Johann van Graan feared the worst after the incident and the Province confirmed the 25-year-old South African sustained an ACL tear.

Snyman will meet with the specialist next to discuss surgery and management but he is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It's a massive blow for Munster, who spent big money on bringing the World Cup winner to Ireland along with his Springbok team-mate Damian de Allende.

Dave Kilcoyne and Jean Kleyn have also been ruled out for the immediate future with both players requiring rehabilitation periods for respective ankle and neck ligament injuries.

Munster will be back in action on Sunday against Connacht at the Aviva Stadium and ahead of that game, the squad gathered at the HPC on Tuesday morning for the next phase of the IRFU’s routine PCR testing.
