North Carolina venue among the Ulster man's favourite courses.
Rory McIlroy begins his bid for a third career win at Quail Hollow when he tees it up at the Wells Fargo Championship this evening.
He's won events there in 2010 and 2015, setting new course records on both occasions. McIlroy shot a final round 62 to land his first USPGA Championship title in 2010 before shooting a day three 61 in romping to a seven-shot success in 2015.
The soon to turn 30-year-old says the Charlotte course is among his favourites.
“It’s always a place that I look forward to coming to every year.
“The course is in great shape. I’m excited to be playing again after a couple weeks off. I’ve got a busy stretch coming up and hopefully I’ll start off with a good tournament this week.”
McIlroy says he's used a two-week break to analyse video footage from the Masters to help make some minor tweaks to his swing.
“One of the good things about having two weeks off is you have time to delve into a couple of things...I just sort of delved into that a little bit and worked on a couple mechanics and feel a bit better about it.”
The four-time major winner says he was in 'great' physical shape ahead of Augusta and believes he's flat performance was more down to psychological factors.
“If I look back through all the success I’ve had winning tournaments, whether it be a Major or not, I always go back to the fact that I was in a really good place that week.
“What will help me ultimately win more Majors is being in the right place mentally.”
