Diego Maradona is recovering well from a brain operation, according to his physician.
The 1986 World Cup-winner underwent emergency surgery on Wednesday night to remove a subdural hematoma.
The surgery lasted 80-minutes, but according to Dr. Leopold Luque, Maradona is already keen to depart the Olivos Clinic in Buenos Aires.
"We are very happy," Luque told the media, "He can walk, he talks to me and it is much more lucid.
"It is early but his recovery is excellent."
Loyal fans have conducted a near constant vigil outside the Buenos Aires medical facility for the 60-year old who is still revered in Argentina.
Sporting greats from the country - including Lionel Messi and Diego Schwartzman - are among those to have sent well-wishes and messages over the past few days.
So encouraging his Maradona's progress that the 60-year old Gimnasia head coach wants to go home.
"The progress is still very good," Luque said, "The CT scan was excellent.
"He is eager to leave, but the idea is to keep him for at least one more day.
"He feels in good spirits and the therapy doctors see him in good spirits, although my idea is for him to stay one more day."
Even if Maradona is discharged in the coming days, it's highly likely he'll remain under constant observation from home.
In that case, the Napoli and Boca Juniors legend will return to his home in the gated community of Campos de Roca.
