Manchester United have launched an investigation into alleged racist abuse aimed towards Jesse Lingard.

The offensive behaviour from fans occurred following United's 3-0 win at Derby County in the FA Cup on Thursday night.

In a video shared widely on social media, racist abuse appears audible amongst a tirade by fans apparently aimed at Jesse Lingard.

Below is the offensive video that has sparked the investigation into the alleged racist abuse.

Warning: Contains explicit and offensive content.

United will seek to speak to Derby about the incident which happened as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad made their way onto the team bus at Pride Park.

Significant Rise

The incident comes on the back of a significant rise in racist incidents at football games according to the Home Office.

150 football-related racist incidents were reported to police in the 2018-19 season, according to Home Office figures, a rise of more than 50% on the year before and more than double the number from three seasons ago.

A spokesperson for Kick It Out said: “Racism is both a football and societal issue, and it is clear that we are living in a climate of rising hatred and tribalism across the world.

"In this country, the situation is no different and the language of division has become normalised within our political debate – and our politicians must take the lead in countering that.

“In that context, it is no surprise to see a rise in reported incidents in English football. But it is also important to note that racism in the game has now become a far more mainstream topic – which we believe is encouraging supporters to take action and report abuse they see or hear.”
