Liverpool forgotten man Ben Davies joins Sheffield United on loan

Ben Davies has left Liverpool for Sheffield United on a season-long loan.

The 26-year old only joined the Premier League club as the January transfer window creaked shut, with Liverpool scrambling for defensive cover.

Long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez saw Jurgen Klopp sign Ozan Kabak on loan, and Davies in a permanent deal from Preston worth £1.67million (€2m).

Kabak has since returned to parent club Schalke, while Davies is yet to pull on a Liverpool jersey in a competitive game.

Instead, he's become Slavisa Jokanovic's first signing as Sheffield United boss.

"Really happy to be here, to be honest," Davies told United's website, "[I] got some good, exciting feelings coming in."

He added, "I've always liked Sheffield United as a club, playing against 'em.

"Obviously coming to the stadium I saw on Saturday they had 29,000 fans in, which was a pull.

"I like the manager, I like the way that he plays football. I think we've got some great players here, and I think we've got a good chance of bouncing straight back up."

The Blades opened their Championship season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Birmingham City, before Saturday's 0-0 draw with Swansea City.

Davies isn't the only player departing Anfield on loan.

Midfielder Leighton Clarkson will spend the remainder of this season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

The 19-year old Academy graduate will look to benefit in the same manner that teammate Harvey Elliott did while on loan at Ewood Park last season.
