Liverpool expect Harvey Elliott to play again this season

Liverpool say Harvey Elliott underwent successful surgery on the ankle injury sustained during Sunday's Premier League win at Leeds.

The 18-year old suffered a fracture dislocation in his left ankle following a challenge from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk.

Elliott went under the knife in London on Tuesday.

Liverpool say the former Fulham player will now begin a rehabilitation programme, supervised by the club's medical staff.

No timescale has been placed upon his potential return, although Liverpool say Elliott is expected to play again this season.

Elliott had begun the season in incredible form, starting in each of Liverpool's last three Premier League games.

Liverpool club doctor Jim Moxon said, "Harvey sustained a fracture dislocation of his left ankle during the game.

“We were able to reduce the dislocation immediately on the pitch and Harvey had surgery today to repair the fracture and ligaments damaged in the incident. The operation was a success so his comeback starts now.

“We won’t put pressure on him by setting a specific timeframe beyond being able to say with confidence we expect him to feature again later in the season following our rehab programme.”

Meanwhile, Leeds have appealed against Struijk's red card.

Referee Craig Pawson allowed Sunday's game at Elland Road to continue after the challenge on Elliott, but later showed a straight red card to the Dutch player following the intervention of VAR.
