Kudela to miss Euro 2020 after 10-game ban for racism upheld

Ondrej Kudela's appeal against his 10-game ban for racially abusing Rangers' Glen Kamara has been dismissed by UEFA.

The Slavia Prague player was handed the punishment last month following a confrontation in their Europa League game in March.

Kudela admitted swearing at Kamara - but denied using racist language.

Czech Republic head coach Jaroslav Silhavy had provisionally included the Slavia defender in his 26-man Euro 2020 squad.

"Hope dies last, in Ondrej’s case we must use all possibilities," Silhavy told the media earlier this week.

Last month, Silvahy had bemoaned the length of the ban handed down for use of racist language, saying, "It is surprising information for me.

"The punishment seems very high to me.

"But if the penalty for the Euros remained," he added, "It would of course be a significant weakening for us."

Kamara's lawyer, Aamer Anwar partially welcomed the upholding of Kudela's suspension, but said, "Whilst the decision of UEFA to uphold the 10 match ban against Kudela for his racist abuse of Glen Kamara is welcomed- the ban smacks of tokenism & in reality UEFA has failed to take any real action against racism, meanwhile my client is yet to receive a full apology."
