Klopp insists Liverpool aren't distracted by thought of setting new records

Jurgen Klopp insists he won't allow his Liverpool players to get distracted by the prospect of setting new records.

Victory over Tottenham would take their points tally to 61 points from 21 matches - which would be the best start to a campaign of any team in the history of Europe's top five leagues.

"Oh my God. Who sends you out asking these questions?" the German manager said when asked about that possible achievement ahead of tomorrow's game.

"We didn’t think a second about it, and we will not start thinking about it now. If we would have started thinking about any kind of record, we would not have won the number of games we won so far.

"I think in sports, never set a record because of wanting to set a record. If you set a record, it just happens because you are focused on the right things. My problem in this moment is Tottenham, the way they play, the way we think they will play, the way they will play. That is all I am concerned about. Nothing else."

Klopp also says he expects a different approach from Mourinho's Spurs than how they played under Mauricio Pochettino:

"We have to think about what he did against us with Man United, but they are different games, a different opponent. We have to analyse, and our analysis usually ends quite a way from the truth because we don’t know 100 per cent.

"It’s the same for us. We want to be unpredictable so we have to be unpredictable, make things that they cannot prepare for. That’s what we try."
