'It's in their hands' | Salah on Liverpool contract negotiations

Mo Salah says that he is not looking for 'crazy stuff' when it comes to a potential contract extension at Liverpool.

The Egyptian star - who is set to feature with his native country at the Africa Cup of Nations - will see his current deal at Anfield come to an end in 18 months.

It's reported that he has requested an increase in the value of his contract to somewhere in the region of £300000 a week.

However, Liverpool's owners, the Fenway Sports Group, remain reluctant to hand out contracts worth so much, particularly to players over 30.

Salah turns 30 in June.

“I want to stay, but it's not in my hands. It's in their hands,” Salah told GQ Magazine in the course of an extensive interview.

“They know what I want. I'm not asking for crazy stuff.”

The attacker remains in superb form, leading the race for the golden boot this season.

It's an accolade he has won twice already in recent years.

“The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something,”

“Because they appreciate what you did for the club. I've been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me.

"But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation.

"It's in their hands.”

On the issue of individual awards, Salah says he continues to retain the ambition to win the Ballon d'Or.

“If you asked me if this was a drive for me to be here? Yeah, of course," he conceded.

"I can't really lie and say honestly I didn't think about it. No, I think about it. I want to be the best player in the world.

"But I will have a good life even if I don't win. My life is OK, everything is fine.”
