When Today FM breakfast show host Ian Dempsey learned of the latest twist in the ongoing Raheem Sterling contract saga he loaded The Gambler by Kenny Rogers into the music playout yokeymebob. 'You've got to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em' sang the bould Kenny. Latest reports suggest that the talented 20 year old has turned down a 100k a week offer and it seems according to his agent would even turn down 180K (sterling) a week indicating that rival clubs are set to swoop in the summer. The club's stance hardening against making him their highest-paid player. He's currently on 'only' 30k a week.
Liverpool and Sterling are at an impasse over a new contract and the England forward has turned down the chance to treble his money and sign a long-term deal worth £100,000 per week.
That is likely to be Liverpool's final offer and they are unwilling to give Sterling what he had been hoping for, which is parity with Daniel Sturridge, who earns close to £150,000 per week.
There is a feeling at Liverpool that Sterling now sees his future elsewhere and that he is open to offers from teams who would be willing to pay him far more. Apparantly first in the queue is Arsene Wenger.
Not bad money if you can get it. However in an unscientific straw poll (on twitter) it appears the player's upsetting Today FM listeners who are club fans.
