Ireland has a new world athletics champion.
Corkman Rob Heffernan has taken gold in the Men's 50km Walk at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow.
The Togher native won in a time of 3 hours, 37 minutes and 56 seconds - only two seconds off his own national record.
His victory marks only the third time that Ireland has taken a gold medal at the championships.
Only Eamonn Coghlan (1983) and Sonia O'Sullivan (1995) have previously won world championships wearing the Irish singlet.
Heffernan's success is all the sweeter after his bitter disappointment at finishing fourth in the same event at the London 2012 Olympics.
