Maeve Óg O'Leary has been included in Ireland's matchday squad for the test match against the USA on Friday.
The Munster back row could be primed to win a first cap from the bench.
She has impressed in the All-Ireland League with Blackrock of late and has earned a call-up on the back of her good form.
Friday's game at the RDS offers Ireland an opportunity to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on World Cup qualification earlier this year.
The match also takes place against the backdrop of criticism of the IRFU's Director of Women's and Sevens Rugby Anthony Eddy.
The RDS hosts the USA fixture, with Japan set to visit the same venue eight days later.
Adam Griggs is set to depart the role of head coach after the two fixtures, with Greg McWilliams in line to take over.
