Huddersfield Town have sacked manager Jan Siewert after just seven months in charge.

The football club made the decision following a 2-1 loss at home to Fulham. He only led the Terriers to just one win during his 19-game tenure, a 1-0 win against Wolves in his fifth game in charge.

The 36-year old German took over from David Wagner in January, but could not prevent them from being relegated and it was confirmed in March they would be playing football this season in the Championship.

The club's chairman Phil Hodgkinson said, “last night’s decision was not one that I, nor the Board, took lightly, but I believe it is one that had to be made.

“Jan walked into a very difficult situation in January; something that we were all aware, and mindful, of. However, I have seen no evidence of the impact on our performances that I was expecting following a full pre-season.

“Jan is a fantastic man and he’s worked tirelessly for this Club during his time here, but unfortunately it has not worked. I believe he is a good coach and I sincerely hope he will be successful in the future.

“I believe our players are better than we have seen so far this season. We will work to appoint a new Head Coach who can get the best from them and bring an identity back to our performances.”

Siewert had previously been in charge of Borussia Dortmund's reserve team.

Huddersfield Town coach Mark Hudson is favourite to take over the job full-time after being appointed caretaker manager. The 37-year-old Englishman took charge of the side following the departure of David Wagner earlier this year. He managed the side for one game, a 3-0 loss against eventual Premier League champions Manchester City.
