Goals from Pat Hoban and Michael Duffy helped Dundalk to a 2-1 win at home to SSE Airtricity Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers.
The goal was Hoban's 70th for the Lilywhites, breaking a record held by Joey Donnelly since 1943.
That defeat, Rovers' second of the week, reduces their lead to four-points with Dundalk and Bohemians both having a game in hand.
