Jim Gavin must be a (fairly) happy man. Three Allianz League titles in a row and heading into the Leinster Senior Football Championship with his squad firing on all cylinders. If the Avonmore Protein Milk is the secret of Jack McCaffrey's incredible capacity to turn on the afterburners, GAA managers up and down the country will have orders in for a job lot of the stuff this week.
Interestingly Dublin stalwart Alan Brogan was part of the match day entourage last weekend and many expected him to be introduced. It must be great for the Dubs boss to have a player of his status in the dressing room to keep the young fellas on their toes.
The major surprise was how badly Cork played, again, when they came face to face with the Skyblues. Only one point in the opening 20 minutes won't win too many matches and it's difficult to evaluate the Dubs performance on that basis. Exactly how bad were Cork? Or was it a case they weren't allowed play as opposed to getting stagefright. Either way Brian Cuthbert doesn't have too much time to work out the answers.
Stephen Cluxton's an old hand at the public speaking at this stage too so all augers well for the Dubs. Chomhgairdeachas!
Story of the season so far has to be Roscommon though. John Evans has guided the Rossies to Division 2 silverware, 12 months after bagging the Division 3 equivalent. The Westerners are surely primed to bag a few more big scalps this summer!
Serious quality scores here. Gwan the Rossies!
