Graham Rowntree signs new Munster deal

Munster forwards coach Graham Rowntree has signed a new two-year contract with the province.

It will extend his stay in Limerick to 2024, having first arrived in 2019.

One of the most experienced coaches in the game, Rowntree's decision to stay at Thomond Park comes as a major boost.

Johann Van Graan will depart at the end of the season for Bath, while Stephen Larkham is returning to Australia to take up a role with the Brumbies.

Rowntree has amassed considerable coaching experience following his playing career as a prop.

He has held coaching roles with English sides Harlequins and Leicester, as well as the English national team and the British and Irish Lions.

“I am delighted to be committing my future to Munster Rugby," Rowntree said.

“I have made my thoughts about this club widely known throughout my time so far, and for me and my family it really has been an easy decision, a non-decision if truth be told.

"We’ve put down roots here and have no desire to move anywhere else.

“I know there will be coaching personnel changes at the end of this season but from where I’m standing, I know that we have everything in place for continued development and success.

“This is a club with established structures, facilities, staff, players, supporters, and resources that any club or coach would be envious of and I’m very excited to be able to play my part in the years to come.”

Meanwhile, Munster say that Jean Kleyn will require a scan on a knee injury he picked up in Saturday's loss to Connacht.
