Frank Lampard heads three-man shortlist for Norwich vacancy

Frank Lampard is among the main contenders to replace Daniel Farke as Norwich City manager.

Farke was sacked on Saturday evening, in the aftermath of their first Premier League win of the season - a 2-1 victory away to Brentford. Farke's fate was already decided prior to kick-off.

Lampard is on a shortlist alongside current Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and recently-fired Aston Villa boss Dean Smith.

43-year old Lampard has been out of the managerial game after he was sacked by Chelsea in January of this year. He'd only been in charge at Stamford Bridge for 18-months, but a severe dip in form - coupled with disagreements over transfer policy - led to his departure.

Formal talks with Lampard are due to take place later this week.

Smith is also free to speak with the Norwich hierarchy following his sacking at the weekend. He left Villa Park after a run of five consecutive Premier League defeats, and only five wins in their last 25 top flight games.

Hasenhuttl is viewed as an outside bet, due to his contract at St. Mary's running until the summer of 2024. The Austrian is also a reported target of Villa's, and is believed to have a break clause in his contract should a required compensation figure be met.

Norwich are rock bottom of the Premier League table, despite Saturday's win. The Canaries are five points from safety after eleven games.

The club are believed to want to make the right appointment before the end of the international window.
