France is considering restarting the Ligue 1 season in June after French President Emmanuel Macron extended the coronavirus lockdown to May 11th.
L'Equipe is reporting that league organisers have June 3rd or June 17th in mind but that the latter date is more likely.
Macron also said restrictions on public events would continue until mid-July which looks set to lead to the postponement of the Tour de France.
Football in France was suspended indefinitely last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the L’Equipe report says that if the season resumed on June 17th, teams would have to play every three days.
That would mean the regular campaign could be finished by July 25th and would therefore leave enough time for the relegation and promotion playoffs to be played by August 2nd.
The French Cup final between PSG and St Etienne has been scheduled for June 27th, according to the report, while the League Cup final between PSG and Lyon is due to take place on July 11th.
L’Equipe also said LFP members had voted last Friday to push back the start of next season by two weeks to August 23rd but that the decision would have to be confirmed by France’s Football Federation (FFF).
The proposed dates would see the French season wrapped up in time for the possible resumption of the Champions League and Europa League in August.
