FAI investigate "anti-English" video shown to squad before friendly

The FAI is investigating a video shown to the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of last week’s friendly with England.

The Daily Mail report that the content of the video was ‘anti-English’, while others say it was merely ‘pro-Irish’.

The FAI say they’re aware of issues surrounding the content of the video, and are looking into it as a matter of urgency to establish the facts.

Ireland lost the friendly at Wembley 3-0, their first defeat to England since 1985.

The incident is set to put more pressure on manager Stephen Kenny, even if the contents of the video were said by others to be "very tame".

Since the defeat, Ireland lost 1-0 to Wales and drew 0-0 with Bulgaria preserving their League B status in the UEFA Nations League.

FAI statement:

The Football Association of Ireland is aware of issues surrounding content shared with our senior men’s team ahead of the recent friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.

The FAI is already looking into this matter internally as a matter of urgency to establish the facts.

The FAI has no further comment to make at this time.
