Donnacha O'Brien could have his first runners as a trainer this Friday night on the all-weather at Dundalk.
Flower Garland and Mytholgic have entries at Dundalk for their Friday floodlit card. Both horses are entered in the mile maiden at 7.00 and Flower Garland also has an early entry in the Apprentice Handicap at 8.00.
O'Brien junior has joined the training ranks alongside his father Aidan and brother Joseph who have both had incredible success. The new name on the racecard will read Donnacha Aidan O'Brien and are trained at Longfield Stables, where David Wachman sent many winners from.
Winners
Like Joseph did with Ivanovich Gorbatov, Donnacha has already trained winners under his father's name. Scholastic was a winner under Aidan's name at the Curragh in October as was the beautifully bred Fancy Blue.
Strangely at the Curragh last October, Donnacha chose not jock himself up on Fancy Blue, who was ridden by Seamus Heffernan. the winning filly is by Japanese superstar stallion Deep Impact and was delivered with a perfectly-timed run to land on the line in front.
Given the precocity in the family, it would not be a huge shock if a first pattern winner came Donnacha O'Brien's way early in his career. Fancy Blue will be aimed at Classic trials early in the turf season.
Donnacha's first top-level win as a rider came on board Intricately, trained by his brother Joseph, winning the Moyglare Stud Stakes. The boys beat their dad, with Aidan having the second and third horses home that day.
Donnacha O'Brien has said he does not want to follow in the footsteps of his brother Joseph with such a large string just yet and will start with a relatively small stable made up of just flat runners.
O'Brien only stopping riding at the end of this flat turf season after being crowned Champion Jockey for the second time. He announced his formal intention to become a trainer in November and still had to complete some of the paperwork.
That paperwork is now complete, and a name other trainers will not have welcomed to the racecard, Donnacha Aidan O'Brien will be appearing from Friday.
