Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren believes that his club can emulate the great Barcelona team that won multiple titles under Pep Guardiola.

The current Manchester City boss managed his native club through a period of incredible success winning 14 trophies including the Champions League twice, three La Liga titles and two FIFA Club World Cups.

Jurgen Klopp has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup since taking over at Anfield in 2015 but Lovren believes that they are well positioned to win more.

"I've been [here] from the beginning with Jurgen and it took two or three years to build everything up and let's say...we clicked this year, maybe even last year but we missed [the Premier League title] by two points," Lovren told Sky Sports.

"But now we understand each other. What we need, what we want and especially like the Barcelona who won in four years, twenty trophies.

"Why should we not do that? I think we can do it. I want that we are remembered as one of the best teams who played.

"Let's say from this year [to] let's say, many many years now."

Liverpool are on the verge of winning the Premier League for the first time, with a 22 point lead at the top over the reigning champions Manchester City.

They are also still in the hunt for the FA Cup and are set to face Atletico Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League.

The Croatian stopper is hoping that he will remain at Anfield to help the club win more silverware.

"Of course I want to be in the team who, hopefully, wins many trophies in the future," added Lovren.

"I think and I feel I have quite a lot of years to give, especially in professional football.

"I'm thirty, so another good five years. I don't think I'm just to be thrown away!

"If the club needs me, I'm here, I'm happy but you never know what can happen in the summer.

"At the moment, I'm just focused at that point where I can say, 'Yeah, we made it'."
